Area 46 Guide to being a Great Intern

As an intern as soon as you join a new company you are ready to show that you are eager and excited to be there. Show what you are willing to offer and what you can do to enhance your skill and gain practical knowledge at the same time showing skills that can benefit the company as well . Cases of asking what to do next should be avoided . This article serves as a guide for an intern on how to operate in a working area or an organization.

  • An exceptional impression should be made

Making a good impression is always important and this can only be achieved by showing your supervisor that you are engaged, ready to work and also excited. Making a good impression is not always about dressing appropriately and nice, it also includes showing up to work early and being ready to get things done as a team not working individually .

  • Be read to ask questions and have somewhere to write the notes down

An intern should not be hesitant when it comes to asking questions .This helps the intern with planning ahead and gives one the ability to know when and where to execute certain projects .Notes should be jotted down during the process. Jotting down notes enables the intern to remember important things and if there is a need to convey the message to your supervisor it will not be biased . During meetings, training or even shadowing someone ,one should be taking notes that show signs of paying attention.

  • Check whether you can contribute towards an ongoing event or additional project

Upon gathering your responsibilities and completing them ,it is always appreciated if you can go the extra mile . Aim to accomplish certain tasks that will be of benefit to the event or project in the long run. If possible complete the tasks that your supervisor has been meaning to do but  did not have the time to, it shows that you are a team player and you are willing to get things done. This will impress the supervisor because it will show that you are making a follow up on things and wanting to be helpful . It sends a clear message of seriousness.

  • Write meta descriptions

An intern should be able to write META descriptions for the company’s main pages. This will help with the indexing of the website . It will also give the intern the opportunity to see what kind of content that is posted on the company’s social media platforms  basing also on the history that is there.

  • Keep track of what you have accomplished

A weekly  report should be written showing what you have accomplished during the whole week. It helps to show whether progress has been made and also serves as a confidence booster at some point . Writing down what you have completed shows how you are contributing to the company and this also helps when you are looking for a recommendation letter , there will be a record of what you would have done even when you are thinking of working full time the record will always be kept .

  • Make sure to check in with the Supervisor before leaving

Before leaving make sure to pass by your supervisor’s desk and ask if there is anything else that needs to be done before leaving the office although it may be tempting to just pack up and go. It is not recommendable to just disappear. Given certain tasks to complete , it should not be done hurriedly. All these efforts will be appreciated.
